New Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has requested the Eagles sign Marcus Edwards, according to Portuguese media.

The Selhurst Park outfit are preparing for life after Michael Olise. The electric winger appears to be on his way out in the summer and a replacement must be brought in.

After it was reported last week that Crystal Palace had begun targeting Championship standouts Jack Clarke and Jaden Philogene, a fresh report out of Portugal adds another name to the Eagles' growing list of potential Olise replacements.

According to A Bola, new head coach Oliver Glasner has specifically requested that former Tottenham youngster Marcus Edwards be signed. The 25-year-old has been thriving in Portugal in recent seasons, with Sporting CP including a €60 million release clause in his contract.

Though unlikely that Palace will shell out that much, especially since Edwards has somewhat fallen out of favour recently, it is claimed that a deal may yet be possible at a lower fee as Glasner has been an admirer of him since he starred against the Austrian's Eintracht Frankfurt side last season.

Edwards to unlock Olise?

A Palace move for Edwards would unlock Michael Olise's transfer. The current favourites to land the 22-year-old are Manchester United, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe already greenlighting the pursuit of the Frenchman.

Ironically, Edwards is also a player on the Red Devils' radar. FootballTransfers was able to confirm in January that the former Spurs product is a player who has been discussed at Man Utd.

The priority for the summer, however, remains Olise. The Palace winger has a €70m release clause and will likely get his big move this summer after surprisingly snubbing Chelsea last year before penning a new deal.

FootballTransfers confirmed last week that the France U21 star is one of Man Utd's absolute priority targets for the upcoming transfer window.
