Just a purple patch? Man Utd target Guirassy STILL on fire!
Serhou Guirassy is putting to bed the fears that his early-season form was just a purple patch.
The Guinean striker has been one of the biggest revelations of the Bundesliga season. One of the main driving forces behind VfB Stuttgart's stunning campaign, which sees them on course to qualify for the Champions League, Guirassy has been nothing short of spectacular in 2023/24.
The 28-year-old started the season like a house on fire and eventually caught the attention of Europe's elite due to a measly release clause in his contract worth just €17.5 million. There were, however, well-founded concerns about Guirassy's form.

Though he had already shown promise last season while on loan, he has taken his game to the next level since joining Stuttgart permanently, but this really is the first time in his career he is scoring at a truly consistent rate. Moreover, his injury record is a major problem, and he did miss several games earlier in the season.
One-season wonder?
Concerns that Guirassy is just a one-season wonder still linger, but the Guinean has firmly put to bed fears that his prolific form in 2023 was just a purple patch. The striker is relentless and he simply can't stop scoring in the Bundesliga. In fact, you could argue that had it not been for his injury and AFCON duties, he could be outscoring Harry Kane this season.
Since his return from a disappointing tournament in Ivory Coast, Guirassy has netted five times in six outings, taking his overall tally for the season to a whopping 24 goals in 22 games across all competitions. But it's not just his coolness in front of the net that makes him such an interesting player, it's the fact that he can also combine with his teammates.

Bundesliga golden boot race
Player | Club | Goals | Games |
---|---|---|---|
Harry Kane | Bayern Munich | 31 | 26 |
Serhou Guirassy | VfB Stuttgart | 22 | 20 |
Lois Openda | RB Leipzig | 19 | 26 |
Ermedin Demirovic | FC Augsburg | 14 | 26 |
Deniz Undav | VfB Stuttgart | 14 | 21 |
Though he has only officially recorded two assists this term, the 28-year-old is much more valuable to Stuttgart's combination play than this number would suggest. He can pick out a pass, run at the opposition with the ball at his feet - though that is not his game - and his attacking drive is simply insatiable.
In light of his form, Man Utd were interested in Guirassy in January, but the striker made the conscious decision to stay with Stuttgart and finish this spectacular season with them. What happens in the summer is anyone's guess, but the Guinean will be one to watch as he will once again be available for relative peanuts.
Fabrizio Romano reports that his summer clause will again be in the region of €17.5m, and Man Utd ought to take another look at him. The Red Devils want to add a striker and while a younger option will likely be preferred, Guirassy's reliability in front of goal and price would make him a smart acquisition to take the pressure off 21-year-old Rasmus Hojlund.
