Man Utd and Liverpool learn price of Crystal Palace star
Crystal Palace have set their asking price for Marc Guehi and are drawing up a shortlist of replacements, according to a report.
The England defender has long since been an interesting option for the Premier League's elite and it appears that the chances of a departure from Crystal Palace are increasing. Though Guehi is under contract until 2026, it is highly unlikely that he will extend his stay at Selhurst Park and the expectation is that he will already be sold in the summer.
Manchester United and Liverpool have been most prominently linked with the former Chelsea academy graduate, though much will still depend on their personnel changes in the coming months. Liverpool are without a sporting director, while Man Utd are in the process of hiring a new one.
The Red Devils are on the verge of appointing Dan Ashworth to that role, who previously eyed Guehi for Newcastle. Moreover, Man Utd are also set to approach Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman to become the club's new head of recruitment, which could be a major ace up their sleeve in their bid to sign Guehi and also Eagles teammate Michael Olise.
Guehi's asking price
According to The Telegraph, Crystal Palace have begun scouring European leagues for a potential replacement for Guehi, with a shortlist currently being drawn up. The report did not mention any names, however.
What it did mention, though, is that the 23-year-old will command a fee in excess of the €55 million Man Utd paid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2019, thus potentially making Guehi the London club's new record sale.
Arsenal and Tottenham could also enter the mix between now and the summer, though their interest is said to be much less concrete than that of United and Liverpool. Chelsea do not have a buy-back clause for Guehi, but they do have the option to match any offer that comes in for him.
