EXCLUSIVE: Al-Ittihad to raid Liverpool and Tottenham for Salah and Son
Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad are keen on securing the services of Tottenham forward Son Heung-min in the upcoming summer transfer window, FootballTransfers can reveal.
The Saudi Pro League side had previously offered €175million to Liverpool for Mohamed Salah, a bid that was turned down by the Reds.
But now sources close to the matter have indicated that Al-Ittihad is now turning their attention towards Heung-min, with the intention of bolstering their attacking lineup. The move is seen as part of a plan to replace the aging Brazilian forward Romarinho, whose contract is set to expire in the summer. Additionally, there are strong indications that Karim Benzema may depart in the upcoming window.
The ambition is to bring in both Premier League stars Son and Salah in a formidable front line to play alongside Abderrazak Hamdallah, who has already notched an impressive 13 goals in 16 matches this season.
Son, who has been a pivotal figure for Tottenham, had previously expressed his desire to remain at the club last summer.
However, recent developments suggest that the South Korea international may reassess his future, especially if Tottenham fails to secure Champions League football this season. The 31-year-old’s contract with Spurs is set to expire in 2025.
What wingers are Spurs interested in?
Son was previously deployed as a left-winger during Harry Kane's tenure but has since been poised as a centre-forward since the England captain’s departure. With the emergence of Richarlison and his impactful performances under manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham do already have a solid No.9 at their feet.
It’s not clear whether the January loan signing of Timo Werner will be a long-term solution. We understand Tottenham also have their eye on wingers Raphinha and Federico Chiesa ahead of the summer.
