Arsenal will look to spend big this summer to continue on the path to becoming one of the top sides in Europe, although Mikel Arteta will likely need to sell some players in order to continue splashing the cash.

The Gunners spent more than €200 million on players last summer but saw their Champions League hopes end at the quarter-final stage, while their push for the Premier League title fell short for a second successive season.

With Arsenal looking to operate with some ruthlessness in their squad building, FootballTransfers takes a look at five players who could leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Thomas Partey

Arteta has kept his first team rotation relatively small, meaning some players such as Thomas Partey have found themselves on the fringes of the squad, particularly due to his injury concerns.

Despite being a crucial player in 2022/23, the 30-year-old has made just a handful of Premier League starts last term and is into the final year of his contract in North London.

Both Partey and Arteta have insisted that they have no desire to push for an exit and could even see a contract extension happening but, with the Ghanian being one of the highest earners at the club, a reasonable bid will likely see the midfielder leave.

Reiss Nelson

Having signed a four-year extension last summer, Reiss Nelson will have been disappointed to have only made one Premier League start last season and the 24-year-old may look to seek first team football elsewhere.

The winger has been used as a backup to Bukayo Saka but, with the England star rarely dropping out of the team, Nelson has been left on the fringes of the first team squad and unlikely to ever progress under Arteta.

The likes of Fulham and West Ham have been linked to Nelson, although it remains to be seen whether any team will meet Arsenal's demands.

Fabio Vieira

Another player who was somewhat forgotten last season was Fabio Vieira, with the 23-year-old starting just a couple of times in the Premier League.

The Portuguese international joined Arsenal for €35m in 2022 but he has struggled for first-team football since his move from Porto, failing to establish himself as a starter.

Arteta seemingly has not trusted the playmaker to deputise in the number eight role, particularly with the form of captain Martin Odegaard, and any interest in Vieira would likely be taken seriously.

Eddie Nketiah

Arsenal are not desperate to add a new number nine to their squad, but they are exploring the market. Before signing a new striker, however, they will look to offload Eddie Nketiah.

Nketiah has failed to press on and establish himself as a reliable goalscorer, while his overall performances have also left a lot to be desired.

The 24-year-old also represents pure profit as an academy graduate and, with the likes of Crystal Palace said to be interested, Nketiah could be one of the first names out the door this summer.

Aaron Ramsdale

Despite previously suggesting that he would rotate between his two keepers, Arteta has firmly been behind David Raya as his number-one shot-stopper, with the Spaniard’s loan from Brentford having been made permanent.

It has left Aaron Ramsdale out in the cold and the 25-year-old will likely look to move on, having initially been keen to fight for his place under Arteta.

However, Ramsdale’s form during his limited appearances was underwhelming last season, so it is unlikely that Arsenal will receive their desired valuation for him, meaning it is also possible he will remain at the club as a backup next season or go out on loan.
