Arsenal will have again been impressed by their top summer target Viktor Gyokeres as the Sporting Lisbon goal machine once again found the back of the net on Saturday.

Gyokeres bundled home the third goal in Sporting’s 3-0 win over Portimonense as his side edged closer to the Primeira Liga title.

The striker is on brilliant form, and this goal means he has now scored five goals in his last three matches - with one of these games being a substitute appearance.

Gyokeres now has a sensational 41 goals in 47 games in all competitions.

His 27 league goals means he is certain to finish the season as Primeira Liga top scorer.

Sporting will be crowned champions on Sunday evening with two games to spare if Benfica fail to win at Famalicao.

Arsenal move for Gyokeres

Arsenal are in the market for a top number nine who can score more goals than current first-choice central striker Gabriel Jesus.

While Jesus has impressed over the last two seasons in his overall play, he has not proved to be prolific enough for a team who wants to win the Premier League and challenge for the Champions League.

Jesus has just 19 goals in 67 appearances for Arsenal, a total that Gyokeres has more than doubled this season alone for Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokeres has been a revelation ever since joining Sporting Lisbon from Coventry for €20 million plus €4m in bonuses last summer.

Gyokeres has a release clause of €100 million in his Sporting contract and it had been initially reported that the Portuguese side would demand this price in order to sell this summer.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport reported last month that Sporting will actually accept bids of €50m for the Sweden star.

Arsenal are leading the chase for Gyokeres, but face competition from Chelsea and AC Milan.
