Liverpool urged to sign long-term Man Utd target
Incoming Liverpool boss Arne Slot has been told to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong when he moves to Anfield this summer.
Slot, 45, will replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool when the German steps down at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, with a compensation package agreed between the Reds and Slot’s current club Feyenoord.
The Dutchman will have several big transfer decisions to make when he arrives at Anfield, although Mohamed Salah is now leaning towards staying at the club next season, despite interest from the Saudi Pro League, which will come as a massive relief.

Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have both been linked with sensational exits too, meaning Slot will need to convince Liverpool’s captain and vice-captain to remain at the club when he replaces Klopp.
The 45-year-old will also be required to give his input regarding potential incomings and former Feyenoord defender Kaj Ramsteijn believes long-term Manchester United target De Jong would be perfect for Liverpool.

Ramsteijn told Voetbal Primeur, as per CaughtOffside: “Arne Slot to Liverpool, take Frenkie De Jong with you.
“I would think that would be a nice club for him. I think Frenkie is so good that I really want to see him play for trophies. Of course, he became champion last year, but if Real Madrid sign Kylian Mbappé next summer…
“Then they will become champions by a mile in the next five seasons. Especially given the financial situation of FC Barcelona.
“And the Premier League seems really fantastic to me. He can play anywhere. He gets the ball, turns away and creates a surplus.”
De Jong has been linked with a Barcelona exit for the past two years and Man Utd remain interested in signing the former Ajax midfielder, with Ten Hag a huge admirer. However, he is reportedly happy at Camp Nou and is unlikely to push for a summer departure.
