Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof have all spent lengthy periods on the sidelines this season.
As a result, Erik ten Hag has had to call upon Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Willy Kambwala more often than he would have liked.
However, with investment from new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the Red Devils are expected to bring a top defender into the fold this summer.
And, Murillo, who has excelled at Forest in his debut Premier League campaign, would be a decent signing.
The 21-year-old would reportedly cost upwards of £20 million.
Man Utd's Murillo alternatives
Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite appears to be at the top of the pecking order, having impressed in Sean Dyche's struggling side this season.
He was called up for Gareth Southgate's latest England squad and would fit United's proposed new strategy of signing the best young English talent.
