We are told that, at this point, the club are prioritising a new right-winger and right-sided centre-back, having shelved the idea of signing a new No.9.

Wilson, who has been a key figure for Newcastle since his arrival from Bournemouth in 2020, was close to a move to Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window. It’s thought that he could exit St James’ Park at the end of the season and his representatives remain on the lookout for a new destination for him.

But FFP constraints mean that the Magpies are looking to upgrade Miguel Almiron on the right-side, with Crysencio Summerville a key target, as previously reported, while there is a need to add to the backline with Jammal Lascelles out injured for a considerable period.

Wilson is now back in full training following a spell on the side-lines and has a chance of being involved against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

His contract expires in 2025 at Newcastle, meaning that he either has to sign fresh terms this year or the club risks losing him on a free deal next year.

Wilson signed for Newcastle from Bournemouth in 2020, for a fee thought to be around around £20 million. He has 46 goals in 106 games for the North-East club during his four years there.
