The England international has been heavily linked with a summer departure following his lack of game time this season and a move to Newcastle is in an advanced stage, according to Sky Sports News.

Ramsdale joined Arsenal for €28 million from Sheffield United in 2021 and he usurped Bernd Leno as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice ‘keeper upon his arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

The 26-year-old then played a key role as Arsenal challenged Manchester City for the Premier League title last season, but he has been demoted to the role of second-choice in 2023-24.

David Raya’s arrival on loan saw Ramsdale lose his place as Arteta’s preferred shot-stopper and he has made just 11 appearances in all competitions this campaign, with three of those coming against Brentford - Raya’s parent club.

With the Spaniard’s move being made permanent this summer, Ramsdale is expected to leave Arsenal and he has reportedly now agreed to join Newcastle.

Sky Sports News reporter James Green appeared on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel and admitted that Ramsdale’s move to St James’ Park is now close.

“I’ll give you this. I understand and I found out directly from a player’s agent that one of our players is off to Newcastle and a deal has been agreed. One that has caused debate and divide this season,” Green admitted.

“Do you know who I’m going to say? It is my understanding that Aaron Ramsdale has agreed to join Newcastle in the summer.

“That has come directly from speaking to somebody who I am very close with who has spoken to his agent and he’s said it’s done, the deal is happening.”

Nick Pope was Newcastle’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, but Martin Dubravka has been forced to fill in this campaign due to Pope’s injury troubles and Ramsdale is expected to arrive as Eddie Howe’s preferred option in between the sticks.
