Arsenal are ready to activate the €40 million clause in Jeremie Frimpong’s contract, with the Bayer Leverkusen ace likely to leave this summer.

According to Bild, Frimpong is likely to decide to move on from Leverkusen this summer but will make an official decision before the start of Euro 2024.

Frimpong has been arguably the best right wing-back in Europe this season, playing a crucial role in Leverkusen’s incredible season.

The German side are still unbeaten in all competitions, having won the Bundesliga title and qualified for the finals of the DFB Pokal and Europa League.

Frimpong has contributed 15 goals and seven assists and been an electric player down the right side.

Frimpong release clause

Frimpong has a €40 million clause in his contract that only becomes active in July. The Gunners believe this price is a bargain.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Frimpong and was also interested in signing him during the January transfer market.

Arteta is keen to sign a more natural wing-back ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Ben White has often been utilised at right-back but is naturally a centre back. Takehiro Tomiyasu is not seen as the ideal solution and is often injured, while summer signing Jurrien Timber has missed most of this season with a long-term injury and is regarded as better at centre back, too.

Arsenal face competition, according to Bild, from both Man City and Real Madrid for Frimpong. Man Utd have also been linked to the player in the past, as well.

Frimpong was a youth team player at Man City from 2010 to 2019 before joining Celtic for two seasons.

He moved to Leverkusen in 2021 and has since played 139 times for the club.

Frimpong has only been capped twice by the Netherlands national team, a fact that has caused a heated debate in the country.
