Wright heaps praise on BARGAIN Arsenal signing

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has heaped praise on €24 million signing Leandro Trossard following his match-winning goal against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Belgium international joined the Gunners in January 2023 following their failed pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk and he has played second fiddle to Gabriel Martinelli for the majority of his career at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Trossard has now ousted the Brazilian as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice left winger and he has started in each of Arsenal’s past six Premier League matches.

The 29-year-old has 17 goals in all competitions so far this season and has already proven to be an immense bargain considering his price tag was a mere €24m.

What has Ian Wright said?

Wright, who scored 179 goals in 278 Arsenal appearances, spoke to Premier League Productions about Trossard’s impact against Man Utd.

He admitted (via Metro): “You saw the way and the manner in which he [Trossard] attacked that box. That’s his thing, finishing.

“I would be interested to see how many touches of his are one-touch finishes when he is coming in because he is crashing into the box.

“He is coming with [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka, who I was surprised wasn’t tighter. But he’s coming in and getting ahead of somebody like that, who is very good at man-marking.

“I think he is our best finisher at Arsenal. You can see that with his numbers. This is why he is playing instead of Martinelli.

“We know Martinelli has the pace to hurt teams, but Trossard has that cuteness, that movement and finishing ability that is vital in games like this.”

Martinelli, by comparison, has eight goals in all competitions so far this campaign and has certainly taken a step backwards following his 15-goal Premier League season last year.

Trossard’s 20th minute goal at Old Trafford means the title race will go down to the final day, with Arsenal currently one point clear of Manchester City, who have one game in hand.
