The Athletic Club winger is thought to be a potential replacement for Raphinha, who Barca are trying to get off their books.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who state that Williams is highly desired in Catalunya’s capital, and is even considered a leading summer target.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful season with Athletic Club, with seven goals and a hefty 16 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

Barcelona believe he can bolster their left wing - but they would need to move on Raphinha to see a move realised.

Spanish outlet Sport reports that: ‘the operation is already being worked on’ by sporting director Deco and his team, suggesting that talks are underway.

It’s thought that the club admire the youngster’s characteristics – such as his pace, final ball, and dribbling ability.

How much is Nice Williams’ release clause?

Williams has a €50 million release clause inserted into his current deal and Barcelona deem that to be a viable amount.

Barcelona wish to bring in a central midfielder as a priority, however - someone who can play the No.6 role at the Nou Camp.

Arsenal and Chelsea have previously been linked with a move for Williams, as both Premier League sides look to strengthen their right flank.

For the Gunners, Williams' arrival would give the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard stiff competition for a regular role in the starting XI.

However, it’s believed that Mikel Arteta is aware that it may be difficult to convince his target to move as he has a sentimental attachment to boyhood club Athletic.
