Chelsea are interested in winger Chris Fuhrich, according to German media.

The VfB Stuttgart attacker has enjoyed a brilliant season on both a personal and a team level. Sebastian Hoeneß turned the side from relegation battlers into Champions League participants and Fuhrich has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of this stunning turnaround.

The 26-year-old has become a senior German international this term, having still played second-tier football just a few years ago. In fact, Fuhrich was signed by Stuttgart for just €2.5 million, while they could soon flip him for €25m due to a release clause in his new contract.

One of Stuttgart's main dangermen, the winger has recorded nine goals and seven assists this season and has generally been one of his side's most consistent and reliable performers. This has, unsurprisingly, attracted big-name attention, with Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig said to be keen.

Now, even Chelsea appear to have entered the race for the Stuttgart sensation.

Chelsea in for Fuhrich?

At least that's according to trusted German outlet Kicker. It is claimed that Fuhrich has suitors in the Premier League where clubs are viewing his release clause as a bargain. Chelsea are the only side to be mentioned by name.

It is somewhat ironic that the Blues would be linked with Fuhrich. Back in March, FootballTransfers used the 26-year-old as an example to illustrate Chelsea's transfer madness under Todd Boehly.

According to data analytics firm SciSports, this €2.5m signing is deemed an overall better player than €70m-€100m Mykhailo Mudryk. Fuhrich has also put up much better numbers than the Ukrainian this term.

It would still be a surprise to see Chelsea actually sign the German international given that he has the chance to play Champions League football with Stuttgart or his German suitors next term, but stranger things have happened.
