Santiago Giménez is 'very close' to a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, Mexican outlet TUDN reports.

The striker was one of Feyenoord's standouts last season and has been associated with a top transfer for months. That now seems to be coming. Giménez himself, who is present at the Copa América with the Mexican national team, is also aware of the extensive interest.

Feyenoord have received two offers for Giménez: both Tottenham and Atlético Madrid have submitted an offer for the star who has also been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid. The Atlético bid is lower.

Feyenoord have asked the Spaniards to at least match Tottenham's amount, but this is described as 'very difficult.' As a result, a transfer to Madrid seems out of the question. Tottenham therefore appears to be Giménez's new destination.

Tottenham to finally get their man?

The London club have been associated with the 23-year-old attacker for months. It is not known what the people in Rotterdam will receive for the Mexican. The club wants an amount of between €30 million and €35m, FOX Sports Mexico previously reported.

Giménez himself is aware of the negotiations but does not want to be distracted from the Copa América. Mexico are placed in a group with Venezuela, Ecuador and Jamaica and won the first game against the Jamaicans 1-0 on Sunday. The deal is expected to accelerate once the tournament is over.

Giménez scored 26 goals and recorded 8 assists last season, spread over 41 games. The left foot boasts an excellent goal average with 1 goal every 123 minutes, but this calendar year, the goal production stagnated for quite some time. Giménez only found the net six times in nineteen matches in the past six months.

On Sunday the strange rumor emerged that Giménez had received an offer from Spartak Moscow. Journalist David Medrano from TV Azteca claimed that the Feyenoord striker was approached by the Russian top club a few weeks ago. Spartak seem to have missed out due to the upcoming deal with Tottenham.
