Chelsea have made a sensational enquiry for one of the Premier League’s standout players in a deal that would likely smash the British transfer record.

The Blues have already broken the transfer record twice under Todd Boehly, first with the €121 million purchase of Enzo Fernandez in January 2023 before Moises Caicedo joined the club last summer in a deal that could be worth €136m.

And Chelsea could go for a third bite of the cherry after making an enquiry for Alexander Isak, with the Daily Mail claiming that the Blues have indicated they are keen on signing the Newcastle striker.

Conversations are believed to have already taken place between the two clubs and Chelsea are aware that it would take a record fee to sign a player whom Newcastle paid €70m for in 2022.

Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad, scoring 31 goals in his first two seasons despite a number of injuries along the way.

However, Newcastle have no desire to sell their talisman and are hoping to tie Isak down to a new contract, although the club’s struggles with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules could complicate matters.

Isak has ‘no thoughts’ of leaving Newcastle

Isak himself has remained committed to Newcastle, insisting he is happy at the club on the back of the most prolific season in his career so far.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen earlier this month, Isak said: “I’m enjoying myself very, very much in Newcastle. I just had the best season of my career. That should not be underestimated. I love everything really about the club, the fans, the city.

"I actually have no thoughts of a move or anything like that. I enjoy myself fantastically well and am very happy with my life."

The 24-year-old still has four years remaining on his contract and the likelihood of a move to Chelsea this summer appears slim, especially given the Blues also operating under financial constraints after the extravagant spending in recent years.

Chelsea are hoping to sign a striker this summer but a deal for Victor Osimhen was considered too expensive at around €100m, while deals for the likes of Samu Omorodion and Jhon Duran have also proven too costly to pursue.
