Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson is officially up for sale, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The youngster is coming off a spectacular season with Ipswich Town in the Championship and has duly sparked widespread transfer interest in his services. The 20-year-old played a crucial role in the Tractor Boys getting promoted and he subsequently announced his intention to stay.

However, that is easier said than done given that he is under contract at Chelsea. In fact, the Blues actually triggered a one-year extension in his deal to keep him tied to the club until 2026.

This means that it will be quite difficult indeed for Ipswich to sign the winger permanently. The promoted side have wealthy backers and will certainly give snapping him up a try, though it remains to be seen whether they will be successful.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided a somewhat surprising update on Hutchinson's future.

Romano on Hutchinson

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano announced that Chelsea have decided, after consultation with new manager Enzo Maresca, that the right course of action is to sell Hutchinson this summer despite extending his deal.

"Chelsea, after discussing about that with Enzo Maresca, who knows the player, obviously because he was competing in the Championship, he was there with Leicester and the player was there with Ipswich Town - the idea of Chelsea is to sell Omari Hutchinson this summer on a permanent transfer."

"This is the position of the club, to make some profit [on] Omari Hutchinson. This is what I'm hearing. So Chelsea are open to proposals, are open to clubs, for example, from Eredivisie - there is interest from Ajax, Feyenoord - but also in Bundesliga - Stuttgart - clubs in England, let's see what Ipswich Town will decide to do with [Kieran] McKenna staying at the club."

"For sure, Omari Hutchinson will be one to watch in the next few weeks because Chelsea are open to sell Omari and, according to my information, the fee they imagine to get for Omari Hutchinson is something between £25 million and £30m, so it could be an interesting situation to follow."
