Wrexham are hoping to tempt Gareth Bale back into the world of professional football more than a year after the ex-Real Madrid legend quit Los Angeles FC to retire.

Bale has been inactive for 18 months after departing the MLS outfit at the end of his contract, but that has not stopped the League One side dreaming of getting him back on the park.

Co-owner Rob McElhenney has admitted that the Welsh club is open to making an offer to the 34-year-old.

The Wrexham supremo, who owns the club along with Ryan Reynolds, said at MLB’s London Series: “Bale is still technically available! I don’t know, I made the plea last year and I’m just going to tell Gareth that the offer’s still on the table.

"We’ll let you off for golf, whenever you need to get off. As long as you come to training once or twice a week we can figure out how to get you 10 minutes on the pitch.

"And the golf courses – Wales is amongst the most beautiful countries in the world!"

McElhenney has previously flirted with Bale on social media.

Back in April 2023, he posted: “Hey @GarethBale11 let’s play golf, where I totally won’t spend 4 hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season.”

Bale’s love of golf is well established, with the former Tottenham star infamously holding up a banner that read: “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order” following an international match, much to the chagrin of those at Real Madrid.

Wrexham in talks with ex-Arsenal star

Wrexham are seeking to make a deal for former Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo permanent after he spent the campaign on loan at the club last season.

Okonkwo has since been released by Arsenal.

“We're about to find that out this week. We go to Wrexham very soon and we're going to sit down and talk about that with manager Phil Parkinson,” McElhenney said.

“There's a very good chance of signing him. We're talking to Arthur actively right now. We know he wants to come back to Wrexham and we definitely want him, so it's just about working out the right deal that works for everybody.”
