Arne Slot’s move to Liverpool this summer has opened up the tantalising prospect of Graham Potter moving to fill the void the Dutchman previously filled at Feyenoord, according to a report.

Potter departed Chelsea a little over a year ago and has since been out of work. He has been linked with a string of jobs across the Premier League and Europe, including at Manchester United, but has knocked back a string of offers, including Ajax.

However, the Englishman may yet find himself in the Netherlands, with 1908 reporting that Feyenoord see him as a potential candidate to replace Slot.

He finds himself firmly in second place in that race, however. The Eredivisie giants are well advanced on a deal that will see Sparta Prague boss Brian Priske take the role, but if they cannot strike an agreement with the Czech club, they will turn to Potter to take the reins.

Potter is currently linked with a move back to Brighton, where he truly rose to prominence after strong spells with Ostersunds in Sweden and Swansea. A deal is unlikely to be struck with the Seagulls, although he has also been mooted as a possible replacement for Gareth Southgate in the England hotseat after Euro 2024.

He has already spoken to Feyenoord, with “those discussions positive and there is some feasibility” of a deal being struck.

Potter is out of work and under fire

Potter has been tricky to negotiate with in recent months, though, turning down posts for a variety of reasons. He failed to find an agreement with Ajax due to his financial requirements, for example.

Indeed, he has already been stung by criticism in the Netherlands for his lavish wage demands.

Pundit Rene van der Gijp joked on the popular Vandaag Inside show: “Jesus, that Graham Potter... He cost Chelsea €92 million in six months!”

“He got about €34m when they paid him off and they paid €30m to Brighton to get him.

“I believe he earned €16m a year there as a salary.”

If Potter does indeed replace Slot at Feyenoord, he will do so with much to prove.
