It’s been a quiet window for England’s stars at Euro 2024 so far with all of them fully focused on the tournament. However, that could be about to change.

According to the latest reports, Liverpool and Newcastle United have held talks to sign Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle need to recoup extra finances to comply with PSR regulations before the 30th June, and that means potentially selling one of their biggest assets.

According to the Daily Mail over the last week Liverpool and Newcastle have held talks over a deal for Gordon but those talks have broken down.

Newcastle were keen to involve Jarell Quansah going the other way in the transfer, however Liverpool have refused, with the club unwilling to part ways with the defender.

It is believed that there is a slim chance of talks being revived over the weekend with Liverpool having even mooted to have prepared a medical for Gordon in Leipzig.

The clock is ticking for this transfer to be done with the 30th June deadline a tight one – meaning Liverpool and Newcastle United have just over 24 hours to come to an agreement.

Given how highly regarded Gordon is and with a contract until 2026 – Newcastle will be unwilling to let him depart on the cheap.

Despite PSR restrictions, the club will not want to part ways with one of its key assets.

For Liverpool, adding another winger to the club’s options has always been a priority this summer.

Gordon, who is a boyhood Liverpool fan, ticks a lot of boxes in terms of what Michael Edwards and his recruitment team will be looking for.

But there are no unlimited finances at Anfield either. The club will have to be smart in the way they operate this summer and it is moot whether Gordon’s valuation is one the Reds can afford.
