The 23-year-old was close to sealing a move to Molineux during the January transfer window, but Wolves were unable to finalise a loan deal with an option to buy.

We have been told that a dispute over agent fees hindered Alberto’s prospective move to Wolves in January, but sources close to the club suggest this issue can now be resolved.

Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan were often deployed through the middle last season, but Gary O’Neil is keen to strengthen Wolves’ first-team squad by signing a new number nine.

Alberto has scored 13 goals in 24 matches in all competitions since the Brazilian campaign began at the start of 2024.

He is viewed as a player capable of improving Wolves’ squad ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League season and O’Neil’s side are now considering pursuing a move yet again.

In other news, Wolves had appeared to be in pole position to sign Scotland international Che Adams this summer, but Nottingham Forest have stolen a march by offering a better overall package.

The 27-year-old will become a free agent when his Southampton contract expires at the end of June, and a move to the City Ground now looks increasingly likely.

Adams netted 15 goals in 40 Championship games as Southampton secured promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

In addition to their pursuit of Alberto, Wolves are also set to sign Braga winger Rodrigo Gomes in a deal worth €15 million.

The Portuguese U21 international is expected to complete his medical later this week, and will sign a contract that runs until 2029.

Gomes spent last season on loan at Estoril, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists in 36 appearances for the club.
