Calafiori details being ironed out

Riccardo Calafiori remains close to a move to Arsenal, but the transfer has been at something of a standstill over the course of the last 24 hours, with the Bologna and Italy centre-back’s situation not having moved forward significantly.

Sky Sport Italia reports: “The two clubs are working to iron out the last economic differences for the transfer of the defender. Bologna want €50 million plus a percentage on the future resale; €40m plus bonuses without a percentage on the future resale is the current offer of the Gunners.”

These issues are thought to be relatively minor, despite David Ornstein reporting that there may be some “concern” over the deal from within the Arsenal board.

Bologna, meanwhile, are progressing in signing Calafiori’s replacement, with Lyon’s Sinaly Diomande targeted.

Athletic break Nico Williams silence

Arsenal continue to have an interest in Nico Williams, and while the winger has reportedly been upset by comments Barcelona president Joan Laporta made on the radio, Athletic Club have now broken their silence over the potential transfer of the winger.

“Nico is a footballer very committed to Athletic Club, who has been subjected to an excessive and uncontrolled bombardment of questions while at the Euro Cup. The Spanish Federation has not known how to protect him," said Athletic president Jon Uriarte.

“Athletic aims for the maximum, without limits. We are showing that we have a winning project for footballers and coaches.

“We have renewed the contracts of players who are playing in the Euro Cup, such as Unai Simón or Dani Vivian, and coveted players such as Benat Prados, Oihan Sancet, Julen Aggirezabala or Aitor Paredes have also signed for several seasons, to give some examples.

“Athletic Club is economically, socially and sportingly capable of keeping footballers of the calibre of those named in its structure, including Nico Williams.”

Arsenal bid for Ajax wonderkid Setford

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal have launched a formal proposal for Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Setford.

The 18-year-old is already an England youth international and the Gunners are expected to need backup in the goalkeeping area, with Aaron Ramsdale’s future uncertain.

Romano tweeted: “Arsenal submit first proposal to Ajax for 18-year-old goalkeeper Tommy Setford.

“Negotiations ongoing, Ajax sources see Setford as big talent but current deal expires in June 2025.

“England U20 goalkeeper keen on the move.”

Lokonga heads out on loan

Midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga will be moved out of the Emirates via another loan deal, according to Sky Sports.

The Belgium midfielder is set to move to LaLiga club Sevilla on loan, with the deal including a €12 million option to buy.

If certain criteria are triggered, the option is set to become an obligation.
