We are told that the Sporting CP sharpshooter still tops the Gunners' shortlist of striker options, though a sizeable gap in valuation remains.

Sporting are no longer holding out for the Swede's €100m release clause to be paid in full, but they still want at least around €70m (£60m).

However, there has so far been no concrete movement towards opening formal talks due to Arsenal's focus on Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino.

Piero Hincapie interest

Arsenal were interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie before finalising a deal for the aforementioned Calafiori.

That is according to The Athletic, who have reported that Hincapie was an option for Arsenal as they searched for a new left-sided defender.

However, a move will not take place following Calafiori’s move to north London.

Wonderkid confirms exit

Chido Obi-Martin has confirmed his departure from Arsenal as he continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United.

The 16-year-old is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in European football and Man Utd are believed to be leading the race for his signature.

The Red Devils’ hopes of landing Obi-Martin have been boosted after he posted on social media: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Arsenal for the past four years. The experiences and growth I've achieved here have been truly unbelievable.

“A special thanks to the coaches, staff, and teammates at Hale End. The memories made will always be remembered. Thank you once again for this journey. I wish everyone continued success and all the best for the future.”

Emile Smith Rowe close to Fulham

Emile Smith Rowe is undergoing his medical at Fulham after the Whites reached an agreement to sign the Arsenal midfielder.

Marco Silva’s side have reportedly paid an initial €32 million for Smith Rowe, who will become Fulham’s all-time record signing.

The Englishman will link up with his new team-mates once his medical is completed.

Arsenal want Leroy Sane

Arsenal are monitoring Leroy Sane’s situation at Bayern Munich, according to Sky Germany.

The former Manchester City winger has one year left on his current deal at the Allianz Arena and although he is happy at the club, a summer exit is possible.

Arsenal’s interest in Sane was first reported by FootballTransfers.

Granit Xhaka aims dig at Arsenal

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has aimed a slight dig at his former club following his move to Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

The Switzerland international won the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal during his debut season at Leverkusen and has now taken aim at Arsenal.

He told Bild: “The move from Arsenal to Leverkusen was not a step back, but rather two steps forward.”
