Arsenal fans FUME as record-breaker Miedema joins WSL rivals
Arsenal legend Vivianne Miedema has officially joined Manchester City on a three-year deal.
Miedema, 27, left the Gunners at the end of June following the expiration of her contract and Man City have swooped to land the WSL’s all-time record goalscorer on a free transfer.
The Netherlands international has netted 80 goals in just 106 appearances in the competition, while she earned the WSL’s Golden Boot in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.

In addition, Miedema is also her country’s record goalscorer across the men’s and women’s game - with 95 strikes in 115 caps.
Arsenal opted against offering the 27-year-old a new contract this summer, despite her record of 125 goals in 172 games for the club.

What has Vivienne Miedema said?
In an official statement posted on Man City’s website, Miedema said: “The reason I chose City is because they have the same ambitions as me. They want to win the league and titles.
“Looking to the future, I’ve always said I want to play with the best players in the world and I think City have got that.
“I haven’t played as much football as I would have wished over the past two years, but I think and hope my best years are still to come. I hope I’m going to be able to help the team as much as I can do.

“I am just really excited to be part of the team and for the girls to hopefully help me and get me back to my best. If I get back to my best again then we can achieve really nice things together.”
Miedema is Man City’s first signing of the summer, while they have seen six players depart ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
Filippa Angeldahl and Ellie Roebuck have joined Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, Esme Morgan has signed for Washington Spirit, and Steph Houghton has retired.
In addition, Demi Stokes and Ruby Mace have also departed after their contracts expired.
