The former Arsenal favourite's career has not really been as illustrious as it could have been. To be sure, Ceballos has won loads of trophies as a Real Madrid player.

However, the 27-year-old has not managed to nail down a regular place in the side and has been on the squad's periphery for some time. Indeed, transfer speculation surrounding Ceballos' future had been rampant in previous years, but this summer is different.

Strangely, Ceballos decided to sign a new four-year contract with Real Madrid last year despite not playing and having the opportunity to leave the club. It turned out to be a foolish decision and securing an exit now seems to be anything but straightforward.

Ceballos has a shortage of suitors

According to AS, the embarrassing problem Ceballos is facing now is that, as things stand, there is only one club interested in him. His boyhood side Real Betis would be open to taking him back and the 27-year-old is keen on the move, but the Seville side are enduring some financial difficulties and likely can't afford him.

Other than Betis, no one is currently interested in the Spaniard. Previously, he had been frequently associated with Aston Villa, but it turns out that this was just a convenient link to make due to Unai Emery being in charge at Villa Park.

Emery was the man who brought Ceballos to Arsenal, but concrete interest from England was at a premium and 'that flame seems to have gone out' now. As for Real Madrid, they are 'taking it easy.' Given the length of his deal, it will take a sizeable offer to get them to sell and Ceballos is expected to start pre-season as a Los Blancos player.
