The Dutchman's Man Utd nightmare is close to being over at last. A €39 million signing in 2020, Van de Beek never managed to recapture his stunning Ajax form at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old was already keen to leave Man Utd permanently last summer, but a move to Real Sociedad collapsed, leaving him rotting on the bench until January when he joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan.

However, things only got worse for the midfielder in the Bundesliga. Initially a guaranteed starter, the unfit and ineffectual Van de Beek eventually lost his place and struggled to get significant game time in the final weeks of the season.

Despite this, the Dutchman now looks set to play Champions League football next term.

Van de Beek to Girona

According to Relevo and since confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, there is an agreement between Man Utd and Girona for the transfer of the Dutchman.

Stunningly, the original report reveals that the initial transfer fee for the Dutchman will only be around €500,000. However, Romano has since provided more context, stating that the fee could go up to €5 million in add-ons.

Catalan minnows Girona, owned by City Football Group, qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history last season under coach Michel. Van de Beek has yet to agree on personal terms with the LaLiga side, according to Romano.

Van de Beek only has a year to run on his Man Utd contract, so the Red Devils appear happy to just bank any kind of nominal fee for him. Girona are determined that they can help the former Ajax star revive his career.
