Man Utd nightmare as Marseille fans protest Greenwood transfer
Marseille fans have started a protest campaign on social media to stop their club from signing Mason Greenwood.
Manchester United are looking to offload the disgraced forward permanently this summer after he managed to somewhat revive his career on loan at Getafe last season.
His stint in Spain was the first time Greenwood played football since getting arrested in 2022 and subsequently being charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The charges were eventually dropped, but the 22-year-old's innocence was never proven.

When Man Utd tried to bring him back into the fray last summer, this decision was met with widespread outrage, forcing the club to change their stance on Greenwood and eventually loaning him to Getafe, where resistance to the transfer was minuscule; in fact, his arrival was celebrated by large sections of the fanbase.

It seems Man Utd won't have it that easy with Greenwood's next move. Marseille are currently in talks with the Red Devils for the attacker, having launched a formal proposal in the region of €25 million to €30m.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Marseille are giving 'total priority' to striking a deal this week, with new coach Roberto de Zerbi strongly pushing to secure Greenwood's signature.

However, a section of Marseille's vibrant and outspoken fanbase is not happy with this state of affairs. As relayed by RMC, scores of supporters have taken to social media, primarily X, to voice their opposition to this potential transfer with #GreenwoodNotWelcome.
One fan wrote: "What makes us love this club is above all its values. Don't betray them." A large Marseille fan page simply posted a picture of Greenwood with the above-mentioned hashtag and the tweet has since garnered more than 4000 likes and 1000 retweets.
