Man Utd eye Premier League breakout star to bolster midfield
Manchester United may look to prise Adam Wharton away from Crystal Palace despite the player being there for just a half a season.
CaughtOffside reports that Wharton has impressed the club after his impressive form at Palace. The former Blackburn player managed to work his way into Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 England squad this summer despite not featuring for a minute in Germany.
Palace won’t want to sell so soon after signing Wharton, especially as they recently made a profit on the sale of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.
The 20-year-old joined the Eagles from Rovers in January in a deal worth a little over €21 million and he went on to feature in every game since his arrival at Selhurst Park.
Wharton has been particularly impressive owing to his passing range and role as a ball-winner rather than a creator. As previously explained by FootballTransfers, the youngster has a similar upside to Man Utd and England player Kobbie Mainoo.
Palace did well to sign Wharton as some of elite Premier League sides were keeping tabs on him before he joined.
Palace to sell Wharton?
TBR Football reported in May that Liverpool and Man Utd are still circling for Wharton. But Crystal Palace have publically denied that Wharton could be for sale.
Club chief Steve Parish would supposedly 'find it hard' to resist the prospect of the Eagles potentially doubling their money on Wharton this summer. Newcastle, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are also named as clubs with a long-standing interest in him.
Given Wharton's significant potential, an asking price in the region of €50m appears quite low on the face of it, and no doubt that this amount will be higher now that the player made it into the England side for Euro 2024.
