The Manchester City star has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Saudi Pro League and several reports have claimed that Al-Ittihad are pushing hard to sign the midfielder.

De Bruyne is in the final year of his contract at City and the 33-year-old recently admitted he would be tempted by the finances on offer in Saudi Arabia.

However, the Daily Star have reported that De Bruyne will REJECT the lucrative contract and stay in Manchester due to a reluctance to move his young family away from the area where his children are at school.

The Belgian is thought to have agreed a contract in principle with Al-Ittihad worth £156m (€185m) over three years but he is now set to remain with City for another year at least.

City are hoping to tie De Bruyne down to a new contract and will open talks with the playmaker following the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

City could still lose star man to Saudi Arabia

De Bruyne had surprised some by his openness to leave City after nine years at the club following his interview last month with Belgian paper HLN.

"At my age you have to be open to everything. You're talking about incredible amounts of money in what may be the end of my career,” De Bruyne said.

“Sometimes you have to think about that. If I play there [Saudi Arabia] for two years, I will be able to earn an incredible amount of money. Before that I had to play football for 15 years. I may not even reach that amount yet.

"Then you have to think about what that could mean next. But at the moment I haven't had to think about that yet."

City boss Pep Guardiola insisted this week that De Bruyne would not be leaving, however goalkeeper Ederson could depart for Saudi Arabia, with an offer thought to be on the table for the Brazilian from the Pro League.
