Chelsea still want Osimhen! €40m Omorodion will only be a BACK-UP
Samu Omorodion's big move to Chelsea has been put in context as it's revealed the Blues are still pursuing Napoli's Victor Osimhen to be their starter.
After Nicolas Jackson underwhelmed leading the line last season, Chelsea were in the market for a new striker this summer. They signed Marc Guiu from Barcelona but were after a starter and appeared to have found their man in Samu Omorodion.

However, Liam Twomey revealed on The Athletic FC podcast that Omorodion is being signed as a second or third-choice striker, brought in to compete with Nicolas Jackson to be a back-up, as the Blues wanted to sign two further attackers, a wing-forward and a striker.
That wing-forward has since been revealed as Pedro Neto, with Chelsea agreeing a €63 million fee for the Wolves winger. And according to Twomey, the Blues are still in hot pursuit of Napoli's Victor Osimhen to be their starting striker.
Chelsea still in Osimhen pursuit
The Nigerian striker has been valued at around £110m, but Chelsea are determined to land their man and have shown no qualms about paying such enormous fees in the past, though this time around may be different.
Fabrizio Romano has previously insisted that the Blues won't spend 'crazy money' on the 25-year-old. Wages could be a major sticking point, but should Chelsea secure Osimhen, it would leave Omorodion as a back-up.

Romano has now also confirmed that Chelsea remain in talks over Osimhen despite the signings of Omorodon and Neto. This is due to Napoli still pushing for Romelu Lukaku and the Blues feel that a deal could be struck even if they have to get creative with the formula.
Nevertheless, Romano continues to rule out a loan move as had previously been posited.
