Upon the American billionaire’s arrival in 2022, the west London club launched a bold transfer strategy to sign the best youngsters from across the world.

The idea is to sign wonderkids for relatively cheap fees and either watch them eventually develop into first-team regulars or sell them for a profit.

In theory, Chelsea are hoping to maximise potential future profit, while bolstering their first-team squad with some of the most talented youngsters in world football.

In total, Chelsea have spent €913.3m on players aged 23 or under during Boehly’s time in charge.

Furthermore, potential add-on clauses could inflate this figure even further, with Moises Caicedo, Mykhailo Mudryk and Estevao Willian among the players who may well end up costing more than their initial fees.

In addition, Chelsea are close to completing the signings of Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion for €40m and KRC Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders for €20m.

They will take Chelsea’s spending on players aged 23 or under to over €970m.

With Brazilian teenager Gabriel Mec also being targeted and the Blues’ pursuit of youngsters unlikely to end, Chelsea will soon break the €1 billion mark for ‘wonderkid’ signings.

Wesley Fofana, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, Gabriel Slonina and Omari Hutchinson all joined Chelsea during Boehly’s first transfer window in charge as the Blues set about reducing the age of their first-team squad.

Six months later, Chelsea made Enzo Fernandez the most expensive player in Premier League history after his stellar 2022 World Cup campaign.

A further six youngsters also moved to Stamford Bridge during the 2023 January transfer window, including Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and Noni Madueke.
