Raheem Sterling is not the only Chelsea player linked with a move to Manchester United as the clubs attempt to manufacture a swap deal that could see Jadon Sancho move to Stamford Bridge.

According to The Independent, Man Utd are discussing the possibility of Ben Chilwell moving to Old Trafford to act as backup on the left of the defence.

United had a torrid time in that area last season, with both Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw suffering significant injury problems. Both are still sidelined.

A left-back had been on Erik ten Hag’s shopping list this summer, but it had been thought that a deal to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich had ticked that box. Though a right-back in principle, he can also play on the left.

Talks for Chilwell, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €23.2 million (£19.5m), are ongoing with less than three days of the Premier League transfer window remaining. Crystal Palace had the opportunity to move for the former Leicester player, but they turned this down.

There is no guarantee that talks will prove a success. Chilwell’s high wages promise to be a stumbling block but there is the possibility of a loan deal between the clubs being brokered.

Sancho heading to Juventus?

Man Utd have not abandoned their negotiations for Sterling, the Independent reports. It is claimed that these, which would see Sancho move in the opposite direction as part of a blockbuster swap deal, are ongoing and independent to their plans for Chilwell.

This transfer, though, could prove complicated.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus are accelerating hard to sign Sancho in the wake of Federico Chiesa’s move to Liverpool. The deal that will take the Italy international winger to Anfield is all-but complete, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sancho, it seems, is leaving United. The question is whether the Red Devils can land Sterling, Chilwell or even both.
