Erik ten Hag’s side are eyeing a possible summer move for Berge as they look to bolster their midfield options, and have been told to pay €35m to sign the Norwegian, according to The Sun.

Man Utd’s interest in Berge was first exclusively reported by The Transfers Podcast, in conjunction with FootballTransfers.

We revealed that the 26-year-old was considered as a potential cheaper alternative to Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.

The Ligue 1 giants are still holding out for a €60m fee for the Uruguayan and with Man Utd unwilling to offer more than €50m, the deal has stalled.

The Red Devils are now looking at alternatives and The Athletic have confirmed our report that Berge is one option being explored.

FootballTransfers understand that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Joao Gomes is also a target, while Fluminense midfielder Andre is a player that Man Utd have previously expressed an interest in.

Man Utd told to overpay for Berge

Despite Burnley’s asking price, Berge currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of just €12.4m.

As a result, Man Utd are reportedly being told to pay almost three times Berge’s actual value.

Previously, the Red Devils have frequently obliged when asked to do this - Antony, Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire all spring to mind - but it remains to be seen if Berge will become another example.

Berge, who joined Burnley from Sheffield United for €13.9m last summer, made 37 Premier League appearances last campaign as the Turf Moor outfit suffered relegation back to the Championship.

The Norway international has three years left on his current contract at Burnley, but he is open to leaving the club this summer following their 19th place finish in the 2023-24 English top flight season.
