Eddie Howe has made the Crystal Palace centre-back his number one summer target and an offer still remains on the table.

Talks have taken place regarding the add-on fees to a potential transfer, with Palace wanting €82 million (£70m) for the England international.

There has always been a degree of confidence that a deal would be struck and that continues to be the case. Meanwhile, personal terms are not expected to be a problem.

We understand that Guehi will be one of the highest-paid players at St James' Park, if he joins, and he will be made part of the leadership group, with Kieran Trippier facing an exit amid interest from clubs in Turkey and Italy.

Newcastle's Madueke problem

Newcastle do have a remaining budget to sign a right winger, with Madueke currently a major target for the club.

However, Chelsea are demanding an upfront fee of at least €59m (£50m). The idea of a loan-with-obligation has been suggested, but the Blues will ask for a premium if that is the case.

Newcastle have been reluctant to spend big on other right wingers so far this summer as they do not have the correct profile - either being too short, too old, or failing in the club's character assessment.

Furthermore, Madueke is not expected to make a push away from Stamford Bridge, despite the €60m (£51m) addition of Pedro Neto in his position.

We are told that the England Under-21 international will try and fight for his place.

In addition, Chelsea remain on the lookout for a No.9 this summer.

Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen is considered to be the club's biggest priority as things stand, but Brighton's Evan Ferguson remains on the Blues' recruitment shortlist for 2025.
