Newcastle initiate talks to sign Crystal Palace's Guehi - Ornstein
Newcastle United have reportedly initiated talks to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer.
The former Chelsea defender shone at the 2024 European Championship and he has been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, among others, over the past few weeks.
However, Newcastle are now pushing to sign the England international, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, as they look to bolster the defensive options available to Eddie Howe.

Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles’ ACL injuries mean that Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and summer signing Lloyd Kelly are the only fit senior recognised centre-backs in Newcastle’s squad.
As a result, Howe’s side are looking to bring in at least one more central defender.
Despite interest from numerous top Premier League teams, Newcastle are reportedly the first club to engage in meaningful talks to sign Guehi.

The 24-year-old’s current deal at Selhurst Park is due to expire in 2026 and there have reportedly been no signs of an imminent extension.
The Englishman, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €36.6 million, spent 14 years on Chelsea’s books before leaving the west London club to join Crystal Palace in 2021.
Since signing for the Eagles, Guehi has made 111 first-team appearances, with 29 of those coming last season.
Crystal Palace have already sold star man Michael Olise to Bayern Munich so far this summer, while Eberechi Eze is wanted by both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle’s summer transfer activity
So far this summer, Newcastle have signed Lewis Hall on a permanent deal from Chelsea, while Odysseas Vlachodimos has arrived from Nottingham Forest. They have also added Birmingham City’s John Ruddy and the aforementioned Kelly on free transfers.
Meanwhile, William Oshula is also close to joining the club from Sheffield United.
In regards to outgoings, the Magpies have sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively.
