The Hammers kick off their campaign at home to Aston Villa this weekend having spent more than €144 million this summer – the fourth-most of any team in world football.

The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Niclas Fullkrug and Max Kilman have all come in and new West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is now focusing his attention on the midfield.

According to Spanish oulet Relevo, PSG’s Carlos Soler is West Ham’s latest target, with all parties keen on the transfer after initial talks, having opted against interest from Saudi Arabia and Real Sociedad.

West Ham have been the side most keen on Soler, with Lopetegui telling the 27-year-old he will be seen as a key piece of the project if he joins, and the club’s ‘pampering’ of the Spaniard is said to have convinced him of the move.

The deal would likely be a loan with an obligation to buy, while West Ham are still awaiting player outgoings before being able to formally make an offer to PSG.

Soler out in the cold at PSG

Soler joined PSG in 2022 for €18m but the midfielder has made just 26 starts in his two seasons in Ligue 1 and manager Luis Enrique is not set to be counting on him for the upcoming season.

PSG have already signed Joao Neves from Benfica, while the likes of Vitinha, Warren Zaire-Emery, Gabriel Moscardo, Danilo Pereira and Fabian Ruiz all remain ahead of Soler in the pecking order.

The French side are hoping to sell Soler and fellow midfielder Manuel Ugarte before the end of the month, with the latter still wanted by Manchester United, although both sides are some way apart in their valuations.

West Ham, meanwhile, will be looking to progress under Lopetegui and will hope Soler can be part of his side, however sales for the the likes of Kurt Zouma and Danny Ings will likely need to be agreed before any deal can be struck.
