Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo has been one of the most impressive players in Erik ten Hag’s side this season but is out of contract next summer. Fabrizio Romano has discussed how far along negotiations over a new deal are.

Amad has started to establish himself as a regular in the thinking of manager Erik ten Hag, with the winger’s absence from the starting XI in the EFL Cup clash against Barnsley on Tuesday further evidence that the 22-year-old is being reserved for the bigger occasions.

Having previously spent loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland, the former Atalanta youngster is busy edging €95 million man Antony to a peripheral role, all the while establishing himself as one of Man Utd’s go-to players.

Given the nature of his expiring contract, a new deal will be a priority for Manchester United, then?

Fabrizio Romano says that it, but the football transfer news reporter also confirm there is no panic at Old Trafford to get the negotiations done.

“For now my information is always the same as I mentioned in June - a new deal will be discussed at the right moment. There is no pressure, there is a great feeling between United and Amad. At United they love him, while Amad is also very happy with his game time now,” Romano told the Daily Briefing.

Why are contract talks not stepping up?

Man Utd’s position with Amad is comfortable. Although his deal expires in June 2025, the Red Devils possess an option to trigger a one-year extension at any point.

Should there be no agreement with the Ivory Coast international before January, when he will be eligible to open contract talks with foreign clubs, United will move to trigger that option.

As such, there is little urgency for contract talks to reach a resolution, even if it is what both Amad and the club want.
