Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo 'is in no rush' to extend his contract, according to a report.

The Cameroon international has established himself as one of the Bees' undisputed star players in the absence of Ivan Toney last season and his importance is only set to increase following the England international's departure for Al-Ahli.

With new star striker Igor Thiago sidelined through injury, the fact that Brentford managed to keep hold of Mbeumo will be seen as a real coup. The 25-year-old is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League and unsurprisingly has big-name admirers.

It was recently revealed that Arsenal attempted a late swoop for the winger before they ultimately signed Raheem Sterling from Chelsea. The former England international, however, is only loaned for the season, so the Gunners could return for Mbeumo next summer.

Mbeumo stalling on new contract

According to HITC, Arsenal are not the only side keen on Mbeumo, who statistically ranks as one of Europe's best attackers. The likes of Liverpool, Man City and Aston Villa are also in the mix.

Brentford would like to make sure that the player is tied to the club long-term, with his current contract expiring in 2026, though there is a club option for a further season.

Getting him to pen an extension would not only further boost his value, it would also put the Bees in a more advantageous position in any potential negotiations.

Mbeumo's willingness - or lack thereof - could throw a spanner in the works, however. The report claims that the former France youth international is 'in no rush' to agree to fresh terms with his current employer.

It is expected that Brentford will field fresh interest in 'one of the most coveted footballers in the Premier League' next summer. Liverpool could be in the market for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, while Arsenal may look for cover for Bukayo Saka or for someone to take Sterling's place.
