Barcelona remain interested in Amadou Onana and could push to sign the Belgium international next year, despite his move to Aston Villa this summer.

Onana, 23, joined Villa from Everton for €59.4 million in July and he has enjoyed a fantastic start to life under Unai Emery - scoring two goals in just four appearances.

However, Aston Villa may face an imminent fight to keep hold of the Belgian, with Barcelona sporting director Deco still keen on bringing him to Camp Nou.

Onana, who was linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United before joining Villa, is one of three midfielders on Barcelona’s transfer wish-list, according to Marca.

The Spanish giants are also interested in signing PSV Eindhoven’s Jerdy Schouten and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich as they look to bolster the midfield options available to Hansi Flick.

Schouten is reportedly seen as the most likely candidate to join Barca in 2025, with the club’s pursuit of Onana and Kimmich deemed as difficult operations.

The 27-year-old made 40 appearances during his debut campaign at PSV, having arrived from Bologna, and he started all six of the Netherlands’ matches at the 2024 European Championship.

Joshua Kimmich to Barcelona?

As mentioned, Bayern star Kimmich is also on Barcelona’s shortlist of midfield targets, and the German is due to become a free agent in 2025.

Furthermore, Krkic Sr, the father of Barcelona director Bojan Krkic Jr, believes the 26-year-old will seal a Camp Nou move.

He told Cadena SER (via Football Espana): “Joshua Kimmich is really looking forward to coming to Barcelona.

“Great German and French footballers, when you ask where they want to play, in general they say Barcelona. Real Madrid is also an option, but in general the footballer wants to play for Barcelona for its history, for the club, for its greatness.”
