Romano confirms Chelsea interest in €35m boyhood Blues fan

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea and Tottenham were interested in Patrick Dorgu in the summer.

The Danish left-back has impressed at Serie A side Lecce over the past 12 months and was already being linked with a big move away last winter. A boyhood Chelsea fan, Dorgu has made no secret of his desire to line up for the Blues in the future.

"I have been a Chelsea fan for many years, so of course it is clear that [joining them] is a dream," Dorgu told Flashscore in March. "That's not to say I can't switch to other teams in the Premier League, but even if things aren't going so well for them right now, they are my team."

The 19-year-old made his senior Denmark debut on Thursday, scoring in a nine-minute cameo against Switzerland and this has once again put him in the spotlight.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that there was high-profile interest in his services during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea, Spurs keen on Dorgu

Chelsea and Tottenham are the two clubs who have been most prominently linked with the defender and Romano took to X on Saturday to corroborate the interest from the two London giants.

Chelsea, the transfer expert claims, were keen on the teenager with a view to him initially playing for BlueCo affiliate Strasbourg in Ligue 1. However, Lecce set a hefty price tag, which convinced Chelsea to complete the €10 million signing of Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United instead.

"Understand Tottenham had Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu on their shortlist this summer," Romano wrote. "Chelsea also considered signing the 2004-born left-back via Strasbourg in July. Talks didn’t advance as Lecce wanted more than €30/35m for Dorgu who scored his first goal for Denmark this week."
