Fabrizio Romano expects 'developments' regarding a potential move of Victor Osimhen to Chelsea once the January transfer window approaches.

The Blues missed out on the Nigerian sharpshooter in the summer despite attempting to pull off a stunning Deadline Day swoop. Chelsea were unwilling to match Osimhen's hefty wage demands, so no transfer materialised.

Instead, the striker, who was desperate to leave Napoli, had to agree to a Galatasaray loan move as a last resort, with the Turkish side agreeing to shoulder the majority of his salary and granting him a break clause that would allow him to depart the club in January.

Osimhen has netted two goals and provided four assists in four games so far for the Istanbul giants and speculation surrounding his future has persisted.

Chelsea, it was claimed on Saturday, were already working on a bargain deal for the winter window, which has now prompted a response from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Romano on Osimhen

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Romano rubbished suggestions that concrete negotiations were already taking place, though he did reiterate that Chelsea's interest remains.

“I’m aware there continue to be plenty of stories about Victor Osimhen’s future after a crazy summer that saw him make the surprise move to Galatasaray despite the strong interest from Chelsea and other clubs.

"I’ve been asked about reports on Osimhen possibly moving for just £40 million this January, with Chelsea said to be working on this deal behind the scenes. However, I can honestly say that nothing is happening now regarding Osimhen.

"I’ve said many times recently that Chelsea’s interest remains and they still like the player, but there are no negotiations ongoing and it would be disrespectful for Galatasaray as they paid important money to land Osimhen on loan.

“So it’s all quiet for now, and once we get closer to January we will see the developments.”
