British media slammed for Erik ten Hag FAKE NEWS

The British media have been slammed for a false story that claimed Erik ten Hag had suffered yet another defeat during the international break.

Ten Hag returned to the Netherlands to coach his former side Utrecht in a testimonial match for club legend Mark van der Maarel, who spent 15 years at the club before retiring in the summer.

Ten Hag was Van der Maarel’s coach from 2015 to 2017 and was invited back to coach a Utrecht legends team.

The British media - including the Daily Mail, The Sun, Daily Mirror and TalkSport - widely reported that Ten Hag’s team lost the game 2-1.

They used the ‘defeat’ as a further stick to beat the under-fire Ten Hag, who has endured a disastrous start to the season with Man Utd.

Fake news on Ten Hag

However, these reports were false as Ten Hag’s team actually WON the game 2-1 - and the score and highlights were easily viewable on Utrecht’s official website.

It was soon pointed out on social media that the English media, who clearly just copied each other’s reports without going to an original source, that their stories were false.

At the time of writing, not all have been corrected.

Ten Hag is under heavy pressure after another terrible start to the new season, with United taking just three points from their first three Premier League games, and being thrashed 3-0 at home by rivals Liverpool.

Britain’s bookmakers expect Ten Hag to be sacked sooner rather than later, with the Manchester United boss the red-hot favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

All of Britain’s bookmakers have Ten Hag as the favourite to be the next coach to get the chop in England, with his odds plummeting after the heavy 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Ten Hag had been expected to be sacked this summer after a generally miserable 2023-24 campaign in which - despite winning the FA Cup - Man Utd finished eighth in the Premier League and were dumped out of Europe at the Champions League group stage.

United held an internal review on Ten Hag’s future and even spoke to a number of potential managerial replacements, but in a shock development decided that the Dutchman would be staying at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is now under pressure to turn Man Utd’s fortunes around, starting from this weekend when United take on Southampton away in the Premier League.

However, even if Ten Hag wins the game, will it still be reported that he lost the match?!
