Fabrizio Romano has smashed any notion that the defender would be leaving the San Siro anytime soon.

The Italian reported today that the right-back is set to fresh a new deal with Inter.

The transfer influencer wrote on X formerly known as Twitter: "Denzel Dumfries has agreed on new deal at Inter valid until June 2028! Contract set to be signed in the next days.

"Dumfries was out of contract in June 2025 but new deal will now be valid for the next four years."

United were linked to the Dutchman back in the summer but opted to bring in Noussair Mazraoui instead from Bayern Munich.

Newcastle miss out too

Dumfries was also linked to Newcastle, even just two weeks ago. According to InterLive, the Magpies were the club that appeared 'the most interested’ in Dumfries.

The report even said that they were prepared to make an offer in the region of €20 million to secure the defender in the January window, or even bide their time and wait for the summer.

But their sporting director Paul Mitchell appears now to be driving at younger players who can be bought for value in any case.

Dumfries has accrued 31 goal contributions in 134 outings for the Serie A giant. Indeed his name was mentioned in talks over a swap deal between United and Inter, in a deal that would have sent Aaron Wan-Bissaka the other way.

But the former Crytal Palace man ended up heading to West Ham instead.
