There was 'no chance' of Christian Eriksen leaving Manchester United on Deadline Day, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Danish midfielder has seen his game time at Old Trafford diminish drastically following the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo as one of the faces of Man Utd.

The teenager pushed the veteran out of the team and speculation surrounding Eriksen's future has been rampant since the winter. However, despite links with Galatasaray and his former club Ajax, no move ultimately materialised.

The 32-year-old's agent confirmed on Monday that the midfielder is going nowhere even if some transfer windows remain open. Eriksen is set to stay at Man Utd and will likely depart the club next summer when his contract expires.

However, there was some last-minute interest in his services.

Romano on Eriksen

On Deadline Day, reports emerged that Real Betis had begun taking a keen interest in Eriksen and Red Devils flop Antony. While links with the latter were immediately shot down, there was concrete interest in the Dane.

While a transfer did not occur, Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Real Betis did actively try to recruit Eriksen ahead of the deadline. However, as they did not manage to reach an agreement with neither the player nor the club, there was 'no chance' of him moving to Seville.

"Real Betis had approached Man United for Christian Eriksen as a last-minute target ahead of Deadline Day," Romano wrote on X. "No chance for the move as there was no agreement on player and club side, but Betis tried. No formal bid was sent by Ajax to Man United for Eriksen, despite several links."

Eriksen has so far featured in just four minutes of football for Man Utd this season. The 32-year-old came on as a substitute for a four-minute cameo during the Red Devils' chastening home defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.
