England boss Lee Carsley insists that he 'can't consider' Mason Greenwood for a Three Lions call-up.

The disgraced former Manchester United forward has started like a house on fire following his €26 million move to Olympique de Marseille. The 22-year-old has scored five times and assisted once in three games.

While fans remain split on the attacker, who was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in 2022, some in the business have hailed his performances.

RMC pundit Daniel Riolo described Greenwood's impact as 'extraordinary' and claimed: "In terms of pure quality, over the first three games, Greenwood is perhaps the best player in Ligue 1."

Former England star Chris Waddle asserted on Friday that Three Lions interim boss Lee Carsley "will be taking notice" of Greenwood's form in France. This has now prompted a response from the man himself.

Carsley emphatic on Greenwood inclusion

Speaking to the media ahead of his first game in charge against the Republic of Ireland, Carsley made his feelings on a potential Greenwood call-up quite clear.

"Mason wasn't a player that we can consider, to be honest, no," he said. "I'm aware of how he's doing but he wasn't under consideration." An England comeback seems out of the question, but Greenwood still has the option to return to international football with Jamaica, his father's country of birth.

Former Reggae Boyz boss Heimir Hallgrimsson opened the door to the player last year and new coach Steve McClaren has also expressed a willingness to call up the one-time England attacker.

"I know the players. I met Mason and we had a little conversation," he said last month. "I want to go and meet everyone when I get back and find out whether they actually want to come here and play for Jamaica. It’s the commitment. I will be making sure that we have a conversation with all the players. We have a list."
