Ten Hag sack: Romano reveals final Man Utd decision

Fabrizio Romano is adamant that Erik ten Hag is not yet under threat of getting sacked by Manchester United.

The Red Devils head coach oversaw another ignoble defeat on Sunday when his side were played off the Old Trafford pitch by Tottenham. It was an "absolute disgrace" of a performance, according to club legend Gary Neville, and unsurprisingly led to a media inquest.

At this point, given the sheer number of times Man Utd have played badly under Erik ten Hag, it would not come as a surprise if the club's new INEOS bosses were to pull the trigger.

However, they haven't...yet. And, as FootballTransfers explained, there is a good reason for it as they have, perhaps foolishly, categorically thrown their weight behind the Dutchman, so sacking him now would be a terrible look.

Word coming out of Old Trafford seems to confirm this. According to Fabrizio Romano and other reporters, Ten Hag is still safe for the time being.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano said of Ten Hag: "It's important to say on Ten Hag that there is no immediate risk of firing the manager. So, in this moment, Man Utd are not discussing internally about sacking coach Ten Hag. They are still trusting Ten Hag. They are still with Ten Hag and supporting the manager.

"But the next two games are going to be important. These are going to be two important games, not just on the result it's going to be crucial but also the performance. So Man Utd, in terms of board, in terms of management, they want to see a reaction.

"It's two complicated games, Porto and Aston Villa, So, two games where Man Utd have to show how they are together with the manager, how they are prepared to fight with the manager and to show their football idea, their tactical idea.

"This is really, really important. At the moment, Man Utd are not discussing firing Ten Hag, but the next two games are going to be important because the pressure is growing and so it's important to see how Man Utd will react on the pitch."
