The Sporting CP midfielder has been somewhat overshadowed by the insane goalscoring form of teammate Viktor Gyokeres. However, the scouts of Europe's biggest clubs have nevertheless been very impressed with the Dane.

Hjulmand has established himself as one of Portugal's best defensive midfielders since joining from Lecce and continues to be linked with many teams, particularly in the Premier League.

Earlier on Friday, it was revealed that he is one of the names Man Utd are 'closely monitoring' as they seek out potential long-term replacements for Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Hjulmand himself, however, would perhaps favour a move to one of the Red Devils' Premier League rivals. The 25-year-old is a boyhood Arsenal fan and even has the Gunners' crest tattooed on his left arm.

Hjulmand tipped for Premier League move

A Premier League move to Arsenal or elsewhere won't be long in coming for Hjlumand. At least that is according to new Denmark manager Brian Riemer, who coached Hjulmand at Copenhagen and who is convinced that the midfielder is ready to play in the English top flight.

“I spent two years in the Premier League [as Brentford assistant] and I think he has the necessary qualities to play for the six/seven best clubs in the English league. Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City...At a certain point in his career, I believe he will arrive at one of these teams," Riemer told O Jogo.

“His character, his leadership, his personality, his communication are not very common in today’s football, and I was at many clubs, in Copenhagen, Brentford, Anderlecht. It reminds us of the defensive midfielders of the past, who controlled the entire game, who led the teams, you don’t see that much nowadays.

"It’s something rare that Hjulmand has. I’m a big fan of his, I think we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg with Hjulmand.” Could he be Arsenal's long-term Thomas Partey replacement?
