Rodri wins the 2024 Ballon d'Or

Man City and Spain midfielder Rodri has officially won the 2024 Men’s Ballon d’Or.

The 28-year-old claimed his first Ballon d’Or trophy at the Theatre du Chatelet on Monday 28 October after helping Man City and Spain win the Premier League and Euro 2024, respectively.

Rodri won the award ahead of Vinicius Jr in second place.

Rodri is widely regarded as the game's best midfielder at this moment in time, having become an eminently important player for club and country.

The former Atletico Madrid man has been elevated to a new level by Pep Guardiola and both Man City and Spain have been reaping the rewards, with Rodri crucial defensively as well as in the build-up.

Lionel Messi, who won a record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or in 2023, was not included in the 30-man shortlist this year.

Other Winners

In addition to the Men’s Ballon d’Or, a number of other awards were also handed out during the ceremony.

For example, Aitana Bonmati won the Women’s Ballon d’Or, Lamine Yamal won the Kopa Trophy and Real Madrid were named Men’s Club of the Year.
