OFFICIAL: Cole Palmer wins England Player of the Year award

Cole Palmer has officially won England Men’s Player of the Year award for the 2023-24 season.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a sublime debut campaign at Chelsea, following his €47 million move from boyhood club Manchester City, as he established himself as the club’s most important player under Mauricio Pochettino.

Palmer scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists during his first season with the Blues, and he earned his first senior England call-up in November 2023 after a stellar first few months at Stamford Bridge.

Only Erling Haaland (27) netted more Premier League goals than Palmer (22) last term, and the Chelsea man won the PFA Young Player of the Year award following an immense campaign at club level.

His form at Chelsea also earned him an inclusion in England’s squad for the 2024 European Championship, although Palmer didn’t start a single match during the tournament.

Palmer did, however, provide the assist for Ollie Watkins’ winner against the Netherlands in the semi-final, while he came off the bench to score in the final versus Spain.

The 22-year-old now has nine senior caps for England and he is expected to play a key role under new interim boss Lee Carsley.

Following Palmer’s inclusion in England’s squad for their October internationals against Greece and Finland, Carsley was eager to praise the Chelsea man.

“I’ve known Cole for a number of years and seen how he has progressed,” he said.

“Every challenge you put in front of Cole, he takes it in his stride. He doesn’t get too high and he doesn’t get too low. That’s a brilliant attribute to have as a professional footballer. It’s great to see him doing so well.”

Palmer worked with Carsley in England’s youth system, with the pair winning the U21 European Championship in 2023.
