Cole Palmer once again proved why he is one of the most highly-rated players in world football with his performance against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

The England international was cruelly denied a first-half goal by VAR, but he etched his name onto the scoresheet with a powerful left-footed strike just minutes into the second-half.

The former Manchester City academy star fired a devastating shot past Nick Pope, with the Newcastle goalkeeper unable to prevent Palmer from netting his seventh goal of the season.

In addition, Palmer also provided one of the best passes in recent Premier League history in the build-up to Nicolas Jackson’s opener in the 18th minute.

The 22-year-old received the ball from Malo Gusto inside his own half and after spinning away from Joelinton, he curled an inch-perfect through ball inside Tino Livramento and directly into the path of the on-rushing Pedro Neto.

The Portuguese international subsequently squared the ball to Jackson, who finished with aplomb to continue his fine form so far this season.

Palmer now has seven goals and five assists in nine Premier League appearances in 2024-25, with the England star firmly among the list of the most in-form players across world football.

His pass for Jackson’s opener received the full adulation of Manchester United legend Roy Keane.

“I love watching this kid,” Keane told Sky Sports. “Even his awareness when he received the ball, he knows exactly what’s happening… He knows there’s space in behind, he knows there’s players with pace.

“[Gianfranco] Zola mentioned it before the game, when he [Palmer] gets it, he already knows what’s going on around him and very few players have that. Then to execute the pass, my goodness, it’s a perfect pass. You just run and he’s going to pick you out.”
